MESSAGE FROM THE MARKETING CHAIRPERSON
I take particular pride in the production of the SAPOA BEE SMME Contractors to the South African Property Industry – both in its printed form and its online version. The project was long in the making and the assembly of the data base for the first edition was a challenging task.
As chairperson of SAPOA'S Marketing and Communications Committee and as the managing director of a small company supplying capital equipment to the property development industry, I took to heart this project since it was first mooted and became its champion all the way. I am delighted that it has now seen the light of day and that a second edition is in the works.
Intimately involved for many years with SAPOA's communication initiatives, I am only too well aware of SAPOA's CEO's efforts to accord recognition to all those ambitious and determined small entrepreneurs who have struck out on their own and, through sheer tenacity, are beginning to make their influences felt in the commercial environment in which the property owning and management industry operates.
As an entrepreneur myself, I am also keenly cognisant of the daunting obstacles that any budding business needs to overcome. Not only do you have to be proficient in finance and business administration, but you also need to have a good understanding, amongst other disciplines, of how best to market your services or the products you are selling. It is in this latter context that I believe the SAPOA BEE SMME Contractors to the South African Property Industry becomes an essential business development tool.
Through distribution via SAPOA, property practitioners of all types and kinds across South Africa are able to have recourse to a directory containing the names of suppliers generally accepted by the property industry.
Importantly, a website www.contractorsguide.co.za will allow listings in the conventionally printed version to be maintained on an up-to-date basis. Built into this website is a special functionality – property operators wishing to call for bids for the supply of equipment or services are able to post details on the site. Small entrepreneurs who are anxious to develop their businesses merely need to go on site, obtain the details and submit their proposals. A proposal submitted by a listed name carries that much more weight, since only names that have passed certain essential business criteria are listed. And I am certain that property practitioners will generally support proposals submitted by SAPOA BEE SMME Contractors to the South African Property Industry names.
I see another important aspect to this publication and its website companion. We are hard at work recruiting additional sponsors for the Guide – not because of the financial aspects involved in producing the Guide and www.contractorsguide.co.za only but, more significantly, on account of an ability to gain wider, almost proprietorial support within the industry for both the underlying principal that drives and sustains this vital business communications project and also as a means to build critical mass for its data base.
